Explain the lupus anticoagulant test.
Answers
I'm a doctor so I can answer thia question better.
# Lupus anticoagulant-
Lupus anticoagulant testing is a series of tests used to detect lupus anticoagulant (LA) in the blood. LA is an autoantibody associated with excess blood clot formation.
Lupus coagulant specifically targets phospholipid and phospholipid binding proteins.
# Salient points-
- Lupus coagulant tests measure the ability of anti-phospholipid antibodies(aPL) to prolong PL dependent clotting reactions
- the abnormalities are caused by autoantibodies particularly directed against beta-2GPI and prothrombin
Mostly done for autoimmune diseases specifically
- anti phospholipid antibody syndrome
- systemic lupus erythematous
Explain the lupus anticoagulant test.
Lupus anticoagulant ( known as lupus antibody ,LA,LAC or lupus inhibitors)is a immunoglobulin that binds to phospholipids and proteins associated with cell membrane.lupus anticoagulant antibodies in living system cause an increase in inappropriate blood clothing.
symptoms of a blood clot is leg swelling or redness, shortness of breath ,pain, numbness and pallor in an arm or leg.
testing for lupus anticoagulant .
coagulation tests which measure how long it takes blood to clot are used to detect lupus anticoagulant.physicians treating lupus patient start with coagulation test called the activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT).
if (aPTT ) normal doctors recommended the more sensitive test Russel Viper venom time ( RVVT).another sensitive coagulant tests that may be used are platelet neutralization procedure (PNP) and kaolin clotting time (KC).
two test used to detect lupus 1)Dilute Russel viper test known as ( LA -screen).
low level of phospholipid is used PPT-LA known as (LA -sensitive)
retesting normally in about 12 weeks for lupus anticoagulant .some medicine used for lupus anticoagulant .NSAIDs .like aspirin ,ibuprofen, naprosyn or indomethacin and Antimalarial drugs ,benlysta ,Corticosteroids,Immunosuppressive drugs.
