opening and closing of stomata depends on the rigidity of water in the guard cells. if the cells are turgid it will open and if not so contrary. (opposite).
it also depends on carbon dioxide. if co2 is high so it will close and otherwise open.

The opening and closing of the pore is a function of the guard cells. The guard cells swell when water flows into them, causing the stomatal pore to open. Simillarly the pore closes if the guard cells shrink
