Mechanism of Aldol addition reaction:

Aldol addition reaction is the reaction in which substrate used is aldehydes & ketones having alpha hydrogens to the carboxyl group.

Aldol addition reaction is self condensation reaction.

We use weak base for the aldol reaction (NaOH/KOH)

Uses of carboxylic acids:

1. Manufacturing of soaps

2. Food industry uses organic carboxylic acids in production of SOH drinks, food products etc.

3. Carboxylic acids are used in preparation of drugs such as aspirin, phenacetin etc.
