The battle of 1857 and also the first battle of Independence was lead to the following reasons:

1.The Britishers forced the Indians to use the cartridges made from the fat of cows and pigs. Cows are the sacred of Hindus and Pigs are the sacred of Muslims. So they didn't agree this.

2. The Britishers didn't respect the cultures of the Indians.

3. The Britishers forced the Indians to convert into Christianity. Since many of them didn't agree, they started making promises like they would allow them to own a land property. Also they started to allow Christian missionaries to function freely in its domain.
