Communalism is a condition when a single community attempts to develop its personal attention at the expense of other communities.
Communal politics is formed on the opinion that faith is the primary foundation of the social community. Communalism includes conceiving thoughts along the following lines:
• The members of a particular faith must relate to one community.
• Their primary concerns should be identical. Any disagreement that they may have is unnecessary or irrelevant for community life.
In India, many political associations have been formed on a communal basis. The Hindu Maha Sabha, the DMK, The Muslim League, the Akali Dal are established on a spiritual basis. Political leaders also encourage communalism to get tickets at the time of elections.
Political parties, while choosing nominees for the election, give great attention to communalism. A competitor relating to the majority community in that electorate is given ticket of the party. Citizens commonly vote on communal lines. Besides, communal disturbances often develop out in various parts of the nation.
