Two important literary sources-Chanakya's Arthashastra and Megasthenes' Indika-give us a complete picture of the administration under Chandragupta

Arthashastra tells us about how to govern an empire and describes the administration of the Mauryas.

Megesthenes Indika tells us about the political social and economic conditions of people during the Mauryan period.
