1] The representatives elected by the people have the power to take the decisions and the power does not remain with a single person like a king or a dictator.

2] There are free and fair elections conducted during fixed intervals of time under the supervision of Election Commission where those currently in power  have a chance of losing too.

3] In a democracy each adult citizen has one vote and each vote has one value.

4] A democratic government rules within the limits set by constituitional law and citizen's right.
