Explain the major types soil erosions prevailling in India.
Answers
The soil erosion is mainly caused by wind and water. Following are some of the types of soil erosion prevalent in India :
1. Water Erosion : Water is a powerful agent f soil erosion. Some of the types of soil erosion caused by the water include :
A. Sheet erosion : In this case the running water uniformly removes the top layer of earth.
B. Rill erosion : When the erosion is unchecked for sometime, fingers shaped grooves like rills develop on the landscape and these later become wider and deeper.
C. Gully erosion : This is the advanced form of rill erosion. It forms larger channels than rills. It happens due to removal of vegetation and trees.
D. Stream channel Erosion: The removal of soil for stream banks is called Stream channel erosion.
2. Wind erosion : Like water wind is also the powerful agent of soil erosion. It removes the top layer soil from one place and deposits in another place. It also expands the deserts.
