Explain the manorial estates of lords class 11 history !

The Manorial Estate

• The nobles had their own manor house. They controlled land and villages while some lords controlled 100s of villages.

• Manor was a place where dozen of knight's families lived whereas some large monorial contained 50-60 families.

• This estate were almost self sufficient because every needs was found their, like grains were grown in fields, blacksmiths and carpenters were used to maintain and repair king's implements.

  • But somewhere, it needed to be dependent on outside sources(like, lords) for salt, milestone and metalic goods.

• Womens were used to spun and wove the fabric whereas children worked in wine presses.

• From the 13th century, some castles were begin to increase their area to give shelter to knight's families too.
