Mughal army was based on the Mansabdari system .Under this system, Mansabdars had to maintain a fixed number of troops which they would lend to the emperor during the war. They used to get jagir ( land) as payment for their services. Mansabdari system worked efficiently during Akbar's reign.

3.  They were given a piece of land according to their Jat or rank.

4.  The mansabdar's drew their salaries from the revenue of the land.

5.  They were supposed maintain a specified number of men for the emperor's use.

6.   A new gradation of system was introduced to define how many cavalry a military commander was expected to maintain. Hence the size of Jagir depended on the zat and the savar.
