Enzymes are biological catalysts that alter the rate of metabolic reactions in the body. They are soluble proteins in chemical nature and are 3D shaped molecules. They consist of active sites which are specific to their substrates in order to form the enzyme-substrate complex and produce products. They are sensitive to changes in temperature. Enzyme work best at their respective optimum temperatures. However, in low temperatures they remain inactive and beyond their optimum temperature, they get denatured. They are also sensitive to changes in PH. In an enzymatic reaction, enzymes do not change nor get altered and hence, can be used again and again.
