Secularism can be defined as the principles that aims to separate the affairs of the State from all religious institutions. Secularism promotes the thought that all religions are equal and that there must be no discrimination on the basis of religion practised and believed.

Secularism is important for India. This is because:

a) India houses followers of a number of religion like the Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Sikhs, Jains, Parsis, and many more, who live in unity, as a "single unit" in our society, equally holding important posts and offices in all sections of the job sector. There must be no discrimination on the grounds of religion, as it will promote discord and unpleasant scenarios among the other harmonious Indians.

b) Secularism in India will also not support any sort of discrimination in the fields of education, service, politics, etc.
