With the 42nd Amendment of the Constitution of India enacted in 1976, the Preamble to the Constitution asserted that India is a secular nation. However, neither India's constitution nor its laws define the relationship between religion and state.

Indian secularism is a term used to refer 46th amendment in the constitution. It means equal treatment of all the religions with respecting and maintaining their dignity. We know that India is a very diverse country with home to the largest Hindu population,3rd largest muslim population, and 19th largest Christian population and the largest population of Sikh. 1. It is important for maintaining equality which is one of the guiding principle of our constitution.
