The belief that religion should not influence or be involved in the organization of society, education, government, etc. It means that the government of India does not officially promote any one religion as the state religion. All religions are equal and no discrimination is done on the basis of one's religion.
The provisions in the constitution of India led to secularism are;
(i) The Constitution of India does not provide specific attention to any faith and there is no official religion in India.
(ii) All people and societies have been granted independence to exercise, profess and propagate any doctrine or faith.
(iii) The Constitution of India places a ban on the distinction which is based on grounds of religion and all religion granted equal respect.
