How is water supplied to our homes?
Surface water and groundwater are both important sources for community water supply needs. Groundwater is a common source for single homes and small towns, and rivers and lakes are the usual sources for large cities.

Water is supplied to our houses from main water tank by the following mechanism:
- Water from main water tank is supplied under pressure to our homes through pipes.
- Water is made to flow under high pressure so as to make it reach even the highest of the building in area.
- Water flows with high velocity so as to reach the farthest home in the area.
- Since area of cross section of pipe is inversely proportional to velocity of flow of liquid, thus to have high velocity area of pipe is small.
- Water Tank -> Water pipe -> House water pipe -> water tap
