Mechanism of Breathing:

Exchange of gases takes place before respiration process. It takes place between the atmosphere and our nostrils. The oxygen rich air is taken and Carbon dioxide is released.

  • The two process involved in breathing process is known as Inspiration and Expiration.

So, let's know the basic points to be noted within Inspiration and Expiration.

✏️ INSPIRATION:

  • At the time of inspiration, the diaphragm contracts and move down to let in the air.
  • Diaphragm becomes flat and move down towards the abdominal cavity.
  • Along with this, intercoastal muscles also contract.
  • Ribs move outwards and the all total volume of thoracic cavity increases.
  • When air enter, pressure decreases and lungs expand.
  • It is an active process and takes 1-2 minutes.

✏️ EXPIRATION:

  • The diaphragm relaxes and moves upwards (Curved upwards).
  • The intercoastal muscles relaxes.
  • The ribs moves inwards and all total volume of thoracic cavity decreases.
  • Air rushes out from the lungs and lungs relax.
  • It is a passive process.

And we are done !!
