In human beings, se x is determined  by the se x chromosomes. Males have XY constitution of se x chromosomes. Females have XX constitution of se x chromosomes

Sex of child depends on what happens during fertilization.

 i) If a sperm carrying X chromosome fertilizes an ovum which carries X chromosome, then the child born will be a girl.

ii) If a sperm carrying Y chromosome fertilizes an ovum which carries X chromosome, then the child born will be a boy.

Mechanism of sex determination in human :

i have attached a couple of pictures below refer to them as i explain you the mechanism
humans have alleles which determine sex of the offspring here the father is heterozygous hence he is the one to determine the sex of the offspring lets see how:
    MAN --X  Y
×                 X  X   -----    WOMAN
( SPERMS)                                       (OVUM)
 (X -SPERM ,  Y-SPERM   )             ( X  OVA  ,  X OVA)

( the sex determination depends on father, it depends on the sperm hat fertilises the egg if its a "X" its a girl and if its "Y" its a boy--------mother cant determine the offsprings sex because she give the egg with "x" chromosome only)

each of the egg and the sperm fertilise and result in offspring  if the chromosomes are
XX ITS A GIRL    IF ITS
XY ITS A BOY
