a.MODE OF VIBRATION IN OPEN PIPE:

In the mode of vibration in the organ pipe, two antinodes are formed at two open ends and one node is formed in between them. If length of the pipe be 'l' and be the wavelength of wave emitted in this mode of vibration. Then, if 'μ' be the velocity of sound and to be the frequency of wave in this mode of vibration.

b. MODE OF VIBRATION IN CLOSED PIPE:

Modes of vibrations of air column in a closed pipe. The air at the closed end is not free to vibrate so a node is formed at the closed end. While the air at the open end is free to vibrate with maximum amplitude so an antinode is formed at this end. This is the simplest mode of vibration and is called fundamental mode.
