The Eyes have it

'The Eyes have it' is a beautiful story by the renowned Indian English writer-Ruskin Bond.

It narrates the tale in the first person narrative through a narrator who is blind. The narrator bears many resemblances with the author himself.

The blind narrator was travelling by rail to Rohana all by himself . He heard the voice of a girl, a co-passenger , entering his compartment and sharing a seat near him.

The narrator wanted to impress the girl and at the same time conceal his blindness from her. He thus pretended to look out of the window and loudly admired the beauty of the landscape that sped by.

He commented about the hills, the flowers such as the wild dahlias adorning them and the beauty of the sun.

To sound even more convincing the narrator asserted how the trees seemed to be moving while he and the girl seemed to be standing still .

As if he could see, he complimented the girl that she had an interesting face.

Through all these comments the narrator attempted to keep his blindness a secret.
