The scope of population studies is quite wide. On the one hand, this subject is concerned with a quantitative study of the size, structure characteristics and territorial distribution of human populations and the changes occurring in them.

Data of population geography comes in form such as quantitative data, which expressed in numbers such as weight, height, total population, and second qualitative data which categories in non-numeric form such as sex, socio status etc.

The understading of population structure and population characteristics is very important. Population structure implies the age and sex structure of the population and population characteristics includes marital status, labour force status etc.
