if we do not take reference atom for atomic mass the mass values will be more complex to memorize.for example:Hydrogen relative atomic mass is 1amu but if we do not consider the relative atomic mass the actual atomic mass of hydrogen would be 1.673*10^-27 grams this is only for hydrogen imagine the values for other heavy elements
