The first world war created a new economic and political situation.

● It led to a huge increase in defence expenditure which was financed by war loans and increasing taxes: Custom duties were raised and income taxes were introduced.
● Through the war years prices increased, doubling between 1913 to 1918 leading to extreme hardships for the people.
● Villagers were called upon to supply soldiers and the forced recruitment caused widespread anger.
● Between 1918-19 and 1920-21, crops failed in various parts of the country resulting in an acute shortage of food.
●This was accompanied by an influenza epidemic. These famines and epidemic killed 12-13 million people.

This is if you get this as a 5 mark question. You can write a summary if its less than that but this is most Probably a 3-5 mrks question.

I hope this helps :3
