Newton's first law of motion also known as law of inertia :
The body at rest will remain at rest and the body in motion will remain in motion in same direction and speed unless an external force acts on it.
Let's take an example.
According to this law, if we throw a ball on a plane it will go continuously. But the ball stops after sometime. This happens due to FRICTION which opposes the direction of velocity of the ball.
If there is no friction, then the ball will go continuously.
