Andhra Pradesh is an act to promote water conservation and tree cover and regulate the exploitation and use of ground and surface  water for protection and conservation of water sources, land and environment.

Andhra is a South Indian State where ground water plays a very important role in agriculture, About 45% of net  irrigated area is ground water. 


The (APWALTA )  ACT, the regulation to regulate ground water in the state, Andhra Pradesh land water and the tree act (APWALTA ) coupled with free electricity policy of the government accelerated the privatization of ground water in the Andhra Pradesh.

The policies and legislation of the Act strongly focus on the state control and regulation of ground water.

The act also ensures equity and sustainability in both energy and water management.

Andhra Pradesh Act on protection of land, water and trees have the following objectives.

Ensure that water sources and reservers are protect from pollution and exhaustion .


To achieve the total eradication of land pollution and damage as a result of poor practices.


To achieve total tree protection and plantation of new trees.

The importance of the act is that it has promoted conservation of environment and the contents.

This has provided a conducive ambient for organism survival and ensures there continuity
