The opening and closing of the stomata is controlled by the guard cells. In light, guard cells take up water by osmosis and become turgid. Because their inner walls are rigid they are pulled apart, opening the pore.

The opening and closing of stomata is due the amount of water in plant, they rid of the excess water and gurd cells are responsible for movement of stomatal pores.the pores shrink when there is less water and expand when excess water is there.
