explain the origin and spread of cricket in india plz answer according to a 5 mark question on the chapter history and sports class 9th.

*Cricket was a colonial sport. It was played by British only as a part of recreation.
*Indians were believed to have no talent for the game and were not supposed to play the game but they did.
*The first Indian Cricket Club, The Calcutta Cricket Club was established in 1792.
*Later on, a small community of Zoroastrians (Parsis) became interested in the game and became the first Indian community to play cricket.
*They were in close contact with the British due to their interest in trade.
*They found their own club The Oriental Cricket Club in 1848.
*After few time, other communities like The Muslims and The Hindus started playing cricket.
*Thus, Cricket spread all over India and gather huge popularity.

Cricket in india began in the year 1864.
The credit of establishment of cricket goes to the british east india company.
the first match was played between the calcutta and madras. the major cricketing centres in india were calcutta,madras,bombay. As, indians began to win the matches against the british the country admired it and started playing it.
