CAPILLARITY:
when a capillary tube( tube of very fine bore) open at both ends is dipped into a liquid vertically the liquid inside the capillary tube Rises or Falls due to the surface tension this phenomenon is called as a capillary action this is also called as capillarity

a) : when a glass capillary tube is dipped into a liquid of angle of contact less than 90 ° then liquid Rises up in a tube till the equilibrium is attended here Adhesive forces are greater than Cohesive forces
eg: water and acetone etcc

b): when a glass capillary tube is dipped into a liquid of angle of contact greater than 90 ° the liquid gets description in the tube till the equilibrium is attinad here to forces are greater than Adhesive forces
eg: Mercury etccc

capillary is the ability of a liquid to flow in narrow spaces without the assistance of, or even in opposition to, external forces like gravity. It occurs because of intermolecular forces between the liquid and surrounding solid surfaces.
