When the sun, the moon and the Earth in a straight line, the moon blocks the sunlight reaching on the Earth and casts its shadow on earth is called a solar eclipse. When the moon completely hides the sun it is called partial solar eclipse. When it hides the sun only partially, it is a partial solar eclipse.
