Photolysis of water :- It is the process of breakdown of water molecule into hydrogen and oxygen under the influence of light during the light reaction of photosynthesis.
These reactions use photolysis, or the use of light energy to split water molecules and produce oxygen. In these light-dependent reactions, light energy is absorbed by chlorophyll and other pigments and transferred to the reaction center of photosystem II.
Photolysis of water results in the release of oxygen, as a by-product, and the release of hydrogen. The hydrogen released from the water molecule is transferred to the hydrogen acceptor.
