‘Pick on’ is a phrasal verb. This phrase means to treat somebody unfairly, by blaming, criticizing or punishing.

Example

He is often picked on by his colleagues because of his smartness.

Explanation

Phrasal verb is a verb combined with an adverb or a preposition, or sometimes both, to give a new meaning, for example go in for, win over and see to.
