The various factors that lead to soil formation are:

Physical

*Soil texture – Describes how the mineral soil particles are distributed based on size

*Bulk density – The ratio between dry mass and volume of the soil, and influences aeration and water retention

*Infiltration rate – The rate at which water flows through the soil surface

Chemical

*Cation exchange capacity – The number of cations that can be extracted using a very concentrated cation solution

*Organic carbon concentration

*Soil pH – The pH of soil suspensions in salt or water solutions

Biological

*Soil respiration – The producing of carbon dioxide when organisms in the soil breathe

*Earthworms presence – The density of earthworms in the soil

*Microbial biodiversity
