Sun- Contraction and expantion of rocks results in formation of cracks ultimately big rocks break up into smaller pieces.
Water- it helps in two ways. One, water could get in the cracks and later after freezing widen the crack. Two, in fast flowing water rocks rub against each other and causes rocks to wear down into smaller particles.
Wind- High winds erodes the rocks.
Living organisms- Lichens grow on surface of rocks. They release certain substances that cause rock surface to powder down and form a thin layer of soil. Other small plants like moss grow on this surface and cause the rock ti break furthur.
