Western coastal plain are submergent in nature as compare to eastern coastal plain and are well suited to development of natural harbours. Erosional features dominate in western coastal plain. They receive a good amount of rainfall due to SW monsoons. Gujarat , Maharashtra , Karnataka and Kerala divide the western coastal plains into 4 political boundaries. Narmada and Tapi river flows from it forming estuaries. The northern part of the coast is called Konkan , the central stretch is called the Kannad plain while the southern stretch is referred to as Malabar coast. On its northern side there are two gulfs :- The gulf of Khambat and The gulf of Kachch.
