Marchantia are called the amphibians of the plant kingdom. The plant body is differentiated to form stem and leaf like structure. There is no specialised tissue for conduction of water and other substances .

Marchantia is quite common which takes place by the unlimited growth of the branches and decay from the base. When the decay of cells reaches dichotomy, the two lobes becomes separated from each other and the each separa­ted lobe forms independent plants.
