Postmaster's heart changed when he finds himself in the similar situation as that of Ali . His daughter was ill in another town and he didn't get any information about her. He was eagerly waiting for his daughter's letter but he couldn't recieve that, at the same time he realised grief and the pain of separation as he was too suffering with the same situation.

Moreover, he decided to personally deliver the letter to Ali . Next morning, when he reaches Ali's home, he was shocked to learn that he died three months ago.
