The various powers of the independent election commission are the following:
1) The election commission is not subjected to any external power and thus the government cannot influence the action of an independent EC.
2) The EC makes decisions on every aspect of control and conduct of the election, from the day of announcement to the declaration of results.
3) The EC can order the government to follow some guidelines, to prevent misuse of governmental power to win elections or move government officials.
4) The EC implements the code of conduct and punishes anyone that violates it.
5)When on election duty, government officials work under the Election commission and not the government.
