In a modern democracy , power sharing arrangements can take many forms . Horizontal distribution of power : In this the power is shared among different organs of government such as the legislature , executive and judiciary . This type of power sharing is prevalent in INDIA .

1. In india power is shared among different organs of the government- Executive , judiciary and legislature.
In this arrangement the no organ can exercise unlimited power and each organ checks the other. This results in balance of power among different organs of the power. This system is called system of checks and balances.
For example :
The judges are appointed by the executive but the judges can check the functioning of the executive and the laws made by the legislature.
2. Power is also shared among government at different levels :
In this arrangement power is shared among union government and state government. This arrangement of power is called federal division of power. This sharing of power can be extended to Panchayat and municipality.
3. Power is shared among different communities:
This arrangement of power gives a fair oppurtunity to those communties to come to power who otherwise would feel alienated from the rest of the government.
