Plaster of Paris is also known as Calcium sulphate hemihydrated salt with chemical formula CaSO4.1/2H2O
Preparation method :
Plaster of Paris is prepared from gypsum.
Gypsum is heated to a temperature of 100⁰c . It looses 3/ 4th of its water of
crystallization and forms Plaster of Paris.
Balanced Chemical equation:
CaSO4.2H2O-----> CaSO4 .1/2H2O + 3/2 H2O

When the gypsum is heated on 373°k it convert into plaster of Paris
CaSO4. 2H2O +energy 373°k =CaSO4. 1/2H2O+3/2H2O
