The principle behind Liebig's method is that when a known mass of organic compound is strongly heated with dry cupric oxide, carbon and hydrogen present are quantitatively oxidised to carbon dioxide and water, respectively. The masses of carbon dioxide and water thus, formed are determined and the amounts of carbon and hydrogen in the original compound are calculated.
CxHy + O2 (excess) → xCO2 + y2H2O
CxHy + O2 (excess) → xCO2 + y2H2O

Answer:
see below
Explanation:
What is Liebig's method for the estimation of carbon and hydrogen? A known mass of organic compound is heated in the presence of pure oxygen. The carbon dioxide and water formed are collected and weighed. The percentages of carbon and hydrogen in the compound are calculated from the masses of carbon dioxide and water.
