Hydropower is generated from the water flowing in the river or oceans. There are two water cycles involved in the generation of electricity. One water cycle is the natural cycle and the other is inside the hydropower station.

The water stored in a dam is allowed to fall down thereby converting the potential energy of stored water into Kinetic Energy.

The Flowing water rotates the turbine which is connected to the armature of the generator. When the armature rotates inside a magnetic field, electricity is produced.
