1. After the independence of India , one of the major problems was that of rehabilation of refugees .
2. The partition of country created serious economic problems . The major jute and cotton producing areas went to Pakistan , while the processing industries remained in India . This resulted in shortage of raw materials . Many factories had to be closed down till the problem was overcome .
3. There was scarcity of food grains , since large parts of the wheat and rice growing areas were now in Pakistan .
4. Dams had to be constructed to make up for the loss of irrigated area and eventually the production increased .
