When the cow first eats, it chews the food just enough to swallow it. This goes to the rumen, or first chamber. After a while, it is brought back to the mouth and chewed. This is called the process of regurgitation. Later, it skips the rumen and directly goes to the second chamber which is the reticulum. The food also passes through the other two chambers, omasum and abomasum. But in the process, the ruminant digestive system produces a type of bacteria that can digest cellulose.
