It get partially digested food i.e. chyme from the stomach and it plays vital role in chemical digestion of chyme because it has to be absorbed by small intestine.

Many chemical secretions from the pancreas, liver and gallbladder mix with the chyme in the duodenum to facilitate chemicaldigestion.
