DNA replication is the process by which DNA makes a copy of itself during cell division. The first step inDNA replication is to 'unzip' the double helix structure of the DNA? molecule. ... The two separated strands will act as templates for making the new strands of DNA.

DNA replication is the process taking place in each of the prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.

Explanation:

  • The process is a bit complicated. First, there is an initiation done by DNA polymerase at a site in DNA.
  • Here, the DNA is unwinded by helicase enzyme and it is then attached to an enzyme called DNA based RNA polymerase which prepares a primer each of length around 10 to 12 bases RNA to each strand. Then, the polymerization starts by preparing DNA based DNA polymerase.
  • The progression is 5’to3’ on the new strand. In the end, the small pieces are joined by DNA ligase.
