Electroplating is the process of depositing a layer of a metal on another metal. The two main uses of electroplating are :
1. To give metals like gold and other jewelleries a shiny look.
2. To protect it from corrosion.
Example : Objects made out of metals like cycle handle bars, etc. are given a layer of chromium to give it a shiny look and to protect it from corrossion. Objects are not made of chromium itself because chromium is an expensive metal.
