Embryogenesis

  • Multicellular structure developed from the zygote is called embryo.

  • Embryo is the most important part of the seed, it is diploid.

  • In angiosperms the zygote is divided by a transverse wall form an upper and lower cell.

  • The upper cell is seen towards the micropylar and the lower cell towards the chalazal end.

  • Upper cell also called hypobasal or basal cell lower cell is called epibasal or terminal cell.

  • This two celled stage is called two celled pro embryo.

  • The lower terminal cell divides and redivides to form embryo proper.

  • Embryo proper form the multicellular embryo.
