AnSwer :-

\bigstar The phrenic muscles of daiphragm contract and move downward towards abdomen and that increases the volume of the thoracic chamber in the anterio-posterior axis.

\bigstar The contraction of external inter- costal muscles causes the ribs and the sternum to move upward and outwards; this causes an increase in the volume of the thoracic chamber in the dorso-ventral axis.

\bigstar The overall increase in the volume of the thoracic cavity causes a similar increase in the pulmonary volume.

\bigstar As a consequence, there is a decrease in the intra-pulmonary pressure, less than the atmospheric pressure and air rushes into the lungs.

Inspiration is the process of taking air from the atmosphere into the lungs. It is done by creating a pressure gradient between the lungs and the atmosphere. This ultimately results in increase in the pulmonary volume. Due to this, intrapulmonary pressure becomes lesser than the atmospheric pressure.
