Heya friend,
The movement of water molecules from higher concentration to lower concentration through a semi permeable membrane is called osmosis.

Osmosis process:

The process of osmosis involves movement of ‘solvent molecules’ from a solution of ‘high concentration’ to a solution of ‘low concentration’ across a membrane so as to equalize the concentrations in both the solutions.

Osmosis is the main process that keeps the cells alive and stops bursting of the cells due to over accumulation of water content. It also helps in the transfer of water from the roots to the other parts of a plant. This process keeps the organisms in the water to stay in balance.
