Answer:

The size of a population for any species is not a static parameter but it is ever-changing depending upon various  factors including food availability, predation pressure and adverse weather. This fluctuation in population is called  as population growth and it gives some idea of what is happening to the population i.e., wether it is flourishing  or declining. Population growth in a given habitat during a given period fluctuates due to changes in four basic  processes-two of which (natality and immigration) contribute an increase in population density and rest two  (mortality and emigration) to a decrease.

  • Natality : It refers to the number of births during a given period in the population that are added to the  initial density.
  • Mortality : It is the number of deaths in the population during a given period.
  • Immigration : It is the number of individuals of the same species that have come into the habitat from  elsewhere during the time period under consideration. This may help to speed up the growth or prevents  extinction of a smaller population.
  • Emigration : It is the number of individuals that left the habitat and gone elsewhere during the time period  under consideration.

By these population characters, the density of a population (N) at time t can be  expressed after period of time t + 1 as

\sf N_{(t+1)}= N_{t} + [(B+I)-(D+E)]

Where,

\sf B = Number \: of \: births\\I = Number \: of \: immigrants\\D = Number \: of \: deaths\\E = Number \: of \: emigrants

Answer:

The three main processes of change of population are—birth rates, death rates and migration. Birth rate: It is the number of live births per thousand persons in a year. ... Migration: Migration is the movement of people across regions and territories.
