preparation of bleaching powder is Ca(oH)2 +Cl2. ----------Caocl2 +H2O
and it's formula is CaoCl2.
it is used in textile industries and it is used in chloroform manufacturing.

The chemical name of bleaching powder is Calcium Oxy-Chloride and the chemical formula is \text{CaOCl}_{2}

Bleaching powder is prepared by passing of chlorine gas over dry slaked lime

The process of making bleaching powder involves following steps.

1. Heating limestone.

First slake lime is produced by heating the limestone at a temperature around 900°C.

In this process by heating limestone (\text{CaCo}_{3}) we get Slake lime (CaO) and carbon di-oxide gas.

\text{CaOCl}_{2}\rightarrow{CaO}+CO_{2}

2. Next Calcium oxide (CaO) mixed with water and produced Calcium Hydroxide \text{Ca}\text{(OH)}_{2}

\text{CaO}+\text{H}_{2}\text{O}\rightarrow\text{Ca}\text{(OH)}_{2}

3. Finally Bleaching powder is produced by passing the chlorine gas on slaked lime.

\text{Ca}\text{(OH)}_{2}+\text{Cl}_{2}\rightarrow\text{CaOCl}_{2}+\text{H}_{2}\text{O}

Use of bleaching powder:

1. It is used as a oxidizing agent.

2. It is used for bleaching in cotton and textile industries.
